Do you love the outdoors AND the finer things in life? This post is for you!

The Texas Hill Country is known for its scenic beauty — the big sky, rolling blue hills, limestone cliffs, clear rivers and natural springs. It’s also known as Texas Wine Country, with more than 50 wineries ready to offer friendly service, a beautiful vineyard atmosphere and a dynamic range of high-quality wines that are the result of undeniable passion and determination, qualities of our signature Texas work ethic (Just think of Lyndon Baines Johnson, who was raised in the Texas Hill Country).

When you visit a state park or nature preserve in Central Texas, chances are you’re not far from a winery. And, likewise, it’s likely that when you visit a Texas winery, you’re just around the corner from an outdoor adventure. As a lover of both hiking and wine, the Hill Country is my playground of choice. In fact, I’ve discovered several wineries while on the way to or from parks such as Pedernales Falls State Park and Hamilton Pool.

Next time you feel the itch to get outdoors while social distancing, mask up, head out early to one of our many parks in Dripping Springs, Spicewood, Wimberley, and Johnson City, and allow yourself some flexibility on your drive home. Pack lunch and plenty of water, and look for signs while you’re on those country roads — I’ve seen them in the form of upside-down soap boxes, homemade poster boards, flags, old pickup trucks, and artful wrought-iron gates — to pull into a winery as you pass by. Get some exercise and then reward yourself with a delicious glass of local wine — all with an unbeatable view.
